GPS Mobile Phones
GPS mobile phone technology is available in all newer or refurbished cell phones. The underlying GPS technology came into being during the 1970's and has seen explosive growth in the number of applications using this technology. Initially the uses for this technology were the US military and in recent years it has become a popular mainstay of numerous uses by the general public.
The primary public use of GPS is for navigational purposes and to locate persons or vehicles. Emergency organizations use this life saving technology daily and it has found its way into such diverse uses as in farm equipment and fish finding locating products to name just a few.
The FCC mandated that cell phones be equipped with GPS with a deadline of 2005 for implementation. Since that date all cell phones have been equipped with GPS capability to allow locating of the person or vehicle that has the GPS phone. The GPS mobile phone can be located by law enforcement or emergency personnel and has been credited with saving many people over the years, that have become lost, or needed to be located. The mandatory inclusion of the GPS capability in the cell phone does not mean all cell phones have the capability enabled.
The only time the GPS data is available to others is when a 911 call is placed. The GPS mobile phone capability is available in virtually all cell phones but must be activated and a monthly fee is usually changed by the cell phone provider. Many new Smartphone’s have mapping and other capability that enables a GPS mobile phone or PDA to have full navigational capability.
An excellent example is the HTC Incredible which has Google mapping capability enabled. The BlackBerry phones were earlyadapters of GPS enabled technology. The BlackBerry Storm 9530 is a great example of GPS implementation in a mobile phone. If you are concerned about using GPS for tracking or for mapping, a GPS mobile phone is technology that will help you
accomplish your goals.
